Obituary for Fred McKinnon

Charles F. “Fred” McKinnon, Sr., 71

NEGLEY – Charles F. “Fred” McKinnon, Sr., of Negley, passed away Sunday evening, October 20, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family at his home following a five-year battle with cancer. He was 71.

Born in East Liverpool, October 14, 1948, he was a son of the late Charles R. “Pete” McKinnon and Rose Mary Garns McKinnon. He attended Southern Local High School and for many years he owned and operated McKinnon Motors. He attended the Lord’s Community Church and recently had been associated with Word of Life Chapel in Wellsville.

He is survived by his wife, Janet L. Hawk McKinnon, at home. The couple married February 6, 1969. He is also survived by a daughter, Kriss Hissam and her husband, Randy, of Lisbon, and a son, David Hawk of Negley. There are eight grandchildren: DJ Hawk, Tim Foster, Kayla Craig, Ashley Craig, Kristina Foster, Alissa Hissam, Logan Hawk and Alex Hawk; and seven great-grandchildren: Jaela Craig, Trinity Pearson, Niah Murry, Waylon Foster, Delaney Boyd, Jeremiah Craig and Nova Slager.

There are five sisters: Linda Sue Allison, Kathy Kinder, Jane Duffield, Samantha Sonntog and Vickie Hanlon; and three brothers: Pete McKinnon, Arthur McKinnon and Ron Phillips; as well as a stepmother Neva McKinnon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Charles F. “Charlie” McKinnon, Jr., and Raymond S. Hawk, Sr.; and a brother, David A. McKinnon.

Friends may visit Wednesday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Pastor Harold “Bud” Stull of the Word of Life Chapel will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery.
