At the age of 92, Clyde Clayton Shelton passed away peacefully while residing at the Covington Nursing Home in East Palestine. Clayton, as he was known to all, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017.

He now joins his wife, Martha L. Eddy Shelton, who preceded him in death on October 30, 2009.

Clayton was born in Clay County, Kentucky on May 28, 1924, a son of the late Harvey and Haley Wagers Shelton. He had come to this area as a young man and remained here the rest of his life.

Soon after he and Martha were married on December 24, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served during World War II from June 1943 to December 1945 in both the Pacific and European Theatres.

A union electrician for most of his working life, for many years Clayton also worked at the former Crucible Steel, working mostly as a motor inspector. An active volunteer for the American Red Cross, he was known as a devoted and loving family man who also enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors.

A member of the First Church of Christ (Disciples), he had served as an elder.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Cuddihy and her husband, Joe, of Hamburg, NY, and Lisa Wise and her husband, Paul, of Westerville. Another daughter, Chris Headley, preceded him in death on April 27, 1986.

There are six grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Maxine Coleman and Violet Trevino. Clayton was also preceded by one brother and seven sisters.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Clayton will be buried at Columbiana County Memorial Park. The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
