Obituary for David R Persohn

CINCINNATI, OH – David R. Persohn, of Cincinnati, formerly of Georgetown, Ohio and East Liverpool, passed away suddenly Saturday, August 6, 2016, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He was 68.

Born in East Liverpool, October 15, 1947, he was a son of the late William G. and Doris J. Williams Persohn. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Navy as a Navy Corpsman. David proudly served his country attached to the United States Marine Corps 1st Battalion 9th Marines, and was wounded May 1, 1968 and awarded the Purple Heart Medal. In addition to the Purple Heart Medal, David was later awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal, One Gold Star and Fleet Marine Force Insignia, and Vietnam Campaign medal. David’s bravery and dedication to the provision of medical service helped to shape his career path after his honorable discharge.

After returning from Vietnam, David furthered his education at Youngstown State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in nursing, then continued his education at Kent State University where he earned his Med. David began his career in nursing at East Liverpool City Hospital, and continued his dedication to the medical field as a Clinical Instructor. After years of successful training of student nurses, David transitioned to healthcare administration, where he piloted successful programs in hospitals all across Ohio. A skilled practitioner, a compassionate and effective educator, and an inspired administrator, David touched the lives of his students, his patients and his employees.

His wife survives at home, Debra “Debbie” Maylone Persohn, whom he married July 16, 1980. He also leaves behind his four children: D. Michael Persohn of East Liverpool; Amy Persohn Stoneburner and her husband, Daniel, of Negley; Justin “J.D.” Persohn and his wife, Kristy, of Fostoria, Ohio; and Ashley Persohn Valentine and her husband, Scott, of Cincinnati. In addition to his children, David is survived by 7 grandchildren.

David is also survived by a sister, Diana L. Persohn of East Liverpool, and a brother, Daniel G. Persohn of Wellsville.

Friends may visit Wednesday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
