Obituary for Donald R. Steele
EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Donald R. “Don” Steele, 85, of East Liverpool passed away Friday, March 4, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.
Don was born in Hookstown, PA on September 14, 1936 a son of the late Lloyd and Anna Louise Rizor Steele. He was a Marine reserve veteran. Don retired after 43 years of service from J & L Steel where he worked as an electrician. He was a model railroader and an avid gardener. Don had a passion for his old cars especially the 72 Chevy Nova he restored. He was a loving husband, father and a very proud grandfather to his three grandsons whom he dearly loved.
Don was preceded in death by three sisters Betty Leasure, Eleanor June Gillespie and Evelyn Steele.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, whom he married September 27, 1956, Millie A. (Rice) Steele; two daughters Dawn Lynn Howley and her husband Ed of Columbiana and Tammy Peppel and her husband Jack of Salem; three grandsons Nick Howley of Columbiana, Zach Peppel of Salem and Ethan Peppel of Salem; two sisters Marjorie Skeens of Irondale, and Jeanette Brown of New Hampshire; two sisters-in-law Pauline Marks of East Liverpool and Sondra “Sonny” Akers of East Liverpool; two brothers-in-law Harry Rice and his wife Sue of East Liverpool and Jack Gillespie of New Cumberland and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit Monday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Evangelist Will Montgomery of St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ will conduct a funeral service Tuesday 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
