Obituary for Donald R. "Sonny" Van Dyne

Donald R. Van Dyne, 81

EAST LIVERPOOL – Donald R. Van Dyne, of Lisbon Street, passed away Tuesday morning, February 4, 2020 at the East Liverpool City Hospital after a sudden illness. He was 81.

Born in East Liverpool, May 5, 1938, he was a son of the late Donald and Eunice M. Chamberlain Van Dyne. A lifetime area resident, he worked at the former Crucible Steel Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed wood carving, model trains and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a member of the Friends Wood Carvers Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Carole Seibert Van Dyne, on October 10, 2016. The couple married August 27, 1961. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dalene Van Dyne-Higgins.

He is survived by two daughters: Donna Van Dyne of East Liverpool, and Darlinda Van Dyne-Burt of Essexville, Michigan; and three grandchildren: Laura Burt, Michael Burt and Dylan Van Dyne. A brother survives as well, Lewis Van Dyne of East Liverpool.

Friends may visit Friday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Mark Blakeley will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery.
