Obituary for Donald F. Watkin

SALEM, OHIO – Donald Frank Watkin, of Washingtonville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2020 at the Salem Regional Medical Center. He was 87.

Born in East Liverpool, December 4, 1932, he was a son of the late Kenneth G. and Margaret (Chetwyn) Watkin. A resident of this area for most of his life, he was the owner of Diamond Printing and was a member of the Salem Masonic Lodge. Donald loved collecting and dealing antiques and was passionate about the arts. He always lived on the edge whether it was driving at breakneck speed, raising mountain lions or being at Mt. St. Helens when it erupted or an earthquake in California. His dogs were a big part of his life and he would take them wherever he went. He was a unique individual that lived an extraordinary life. Donald always said that he got to do everything and go everywhere, and he would not have changed a thing and lived by the saying I did it my way!

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, whom he married February 21, 1981, Patrice (Schnepfe) Watkin; daughter Jennifer Grope of Columbiana and cousins David Mumaw of East Liverpool and Trudy Nolder and her husband Robert of Hanoverton.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Pastor Norm Eckert of Beechwood Free Methodist Church will conduct a funeral service Saturday 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park. In compliance with Ohio state regulations with concerns of the COVID-19 virus masks must be worn at all times in the funeral home.
