Obituary for Donna Wines

Donna D. Wines, 85

EAST LIVERPOOL – Donna D. Wines, of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday morning, July 13, 2021, at the East Liverpool City Hospital. She was 85.

Born in Pursglove, West Virginia, June 29, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Dean and Hannah Mitchell Withem. A resident of this area most of her life, for 25 years she worked as a schoolteacher for the East Liverpool City School District at Westgate School and North Elementary. A member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in East Liverpool, she was active in its Sunday school, vacation Bible school and membership committee.

A graduate of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1954, she was a member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association. She continued her education at Kent State University where she graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors and later earned her Master of Education degree at the Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. Donna enjoyed running, exercising and staying active all her life. She was a familiar face at the East Liverpool Area YMCA where she also served on the Board of Trustees for many years and was instrumental in the development of the current facilities. A friend to all, she also was a talented artist and enjoyed sharing her art with the church and school.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry L. Wines, at home. The couple married March 10, 1955. There are two daughters, Lori Cowan and her husband, Chris, of East Liverpool, and Linda Martone and her husband, Dr. Chris Martone, of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, and a son, Keith Wines and his companion, Cheryl Caparuolo, of East Liverpool. She adored her five grandchildren: Kristen Stout, Brandi Wines, Zachary Martone, Joseph Wines and his wife, Dr. Mallory Wines, and Ryan Stout and his wife, Teresa, along with two great-grandchildren: Luca J. Wines and Livia Wines, and a step-granddaughter, Rochelle Russell. A sister, Marlene Barton and her husband, Dale, of East Liverpool survives as well.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven sisters: Lila “Sis” Withem, Ellen Talbott, Millie Eaton, Juanita Withem Naron, Ruth Withem, Betty Pearl Campbell and Audrey A. Stacey, and five brothers: Harry Whittenberger, Donald Withem, Kenneth Withem, Cecil Withem and Wayne “Witty” Whittenberger.

Rev. Greg Mead of the church conducted a funeral service Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial was in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
