Obituary for Dorothy A. Copeland

Dorothy A. Copeland, 95

MILLPORT, OH – Dorothy A. Copeland, age 95, of Millport, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Green Meadows Health and Wellness Center in Louisville where she had been residing.

Born in Elkton, Ohio, September 19, 1925, Dorothy was a daughter of the late Morris and Norma Young Ketchum and was a resident of the area all her life. A member of the David Anderson High School Class of 1943, she worked at Minerva Wax Paper from 1966 to 1988, having previously, worked at TRW. At one time, she owned and operated the former Crystal Springs Bed and Breakfast at their home.

Dorothy maintained a strong faith in God through her membership in the Bethesda Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon, a choir member and active in the Presbyterian Women’s Association. She also was known for decorating the church during the holiday season.

A member of the Orchestra Sunshine Club and the Pleasant Valley Grange, Dorothy was also an advisor to the Franklin 4-H Club for 35 years. For many years, she was an assistant to her husband at the Millport Weather Station 2NW and hosted many foreign exchange students at the family home. Above all things in life, Dorothy cared for people and loved her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin R. Copeland, on December 27, 2005. The couple married April 12, 1944. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Hawkins.

Surviving are two daughters: Janet Cooper of Minerva, and Marilyn Wendt of Tyler, Texas, as well as a son, Wilford Copeland and his wife, Sue, of Orlando, Florida.

Dorothy will also be missed by four grandsons: Matthew Copeland and his wife, Annie, Jason Copeland and his wife, Arica, Mark Cooper and his wife, Heather, and Kevin Cooper and his wife, Heather, and one step-grandson, Greg Cooper and his wife, Rhonda. There are nine great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Robert Hawkins, a nephew David Hawkins and his wife, Claudia, and a niece, Michelle Hawkins, all of Canal Fulton, Ohio.

Pastor Tom Allmon and Pastor Greg Cooper will conduct a graveside service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethesda Cemetery in Hanoverton. Burial will follow. The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Green Meadows Health and Wellness Center for the loving and compassionate care they showed to Dorothy during her stay there for the past year.
