Obituary

Obituary for Dorothy Hales (Taucher)

TOLEDO, OHIO - Dorothy Taucher Hales, 87, of Toledo, Ohio formerly of East Liverpool, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania.

Dorothy was born in Power Point, Ohio on February 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Tursic) Taucher. She was a graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School. A resident of the East Liverpool area most of her life, she worked as an operator at the former Bell Telephone Company and later worked for TCI Cable and CATV.

Dorothy loved to travel, play bingo, do puzzles, take walks outside in the beautiful gardens, and watch the ducks in the pond. She was most happy when spending time with her family.
Preceding Dorothy in death was her husband of 61 years, George R. Hales, who died August 5, 2015. Also preceding her in death were her 2 brothers Donald and Victor Taucher and 2 sisters Stephanie Plunkett and Frances Possage.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Deborah Schedel (William), of Findlay, Ohio and Barbara Layman (Robert), of Toledo, Ohio; seven grandchildren William Schedel (Stacy), Christopher Schedel, Kate Mecja (Bledi), Robbie Layman, Kristi Layman, Molly Layman, and Andrew Layman and four great-grandchildren Spencer, Darcy, Blaze, and Quinn Schedel. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Sondra Taucher as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the entire staff at Kingston Care Center of Sylvania for their loving and compassionate care of Dorothy for the past 5+ years. We are especially grateful to the attentive, kind, and amazing nurses, STNA's, housekeeping, and activities personnel.

In compliance with Ohio State regulations with concerns of the Covid-19 virus, a private family service will be held at Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. We encourage you to reach out to the family electronically at www.dawsonfuneralhome.com where condolences can be sent.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be scheduled at a later date so family and friends can share the many happy moments of her life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Kingston Care Center of Sylvania, ATTN: Ben Perkins/Dorothy Hales, 4121 King Road, Sylvania OH 43560.
