Obituary for Earl G. Steffen

SEBRING, OH – Earl G. Steffen, longtime Wellsville resident, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. He was 93.

Born in Hickory, Pennsylvania, January 28, 1926, he was a son of the late Arthur and Margaret Kress Steffen. Earl was a graduate of Wellsville High School Class of 1944. He was a U.S. Navy veteran proudly serving his country during World War II where he served in the Pacific. For over 40 years he worked for Columbia Gas until his retirement. At one time, Earl was active in the Elks Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW Post 5647 and the American Legion Post 70.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Steffen in 2008. The couple married December 30, 1950. He was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel Steffen, three brothers, Art, Clare and John Steffen and three sisters, Freda Kerr, Evelyn Campbell and Nan Hyser.

He is survived by a son, Robert Steffen and his wife, Merabeth, of Rogers, and three daughters, Laurie Watkins and her husband, Scott, of Wellsville, Kelly Crews and her husband, Timothy, of Alliance, and Peggy Ciccarelli and her husband, Tony, of North Canton, Ohio.
There are 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by a brother Bob Steffen of Louisville and a sister, Viola Rogers of Tucson, Arizona.

Friends may visit Tuesday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Jim Rhodes of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church will conduct a funeral service Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
