ERNEST J. MARCELT, 91

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ernest J. Marcelt, 91, of Lisbon passed away at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Calcutta Health Care Center following a brief illness..

He was a son of the late Bruno and Sophie Grobelny Marcelt, he was born in Detroit on August 6, 1925. An All City tackle at DeLasalle High School, Ernie then served in the US Marine Corp during WW II where he was a tank driver, and was a Purple Heart recipient for being wounded in combat.

Ernie worked for Mechanical Handling Corp. in Detroit where he was a fitter-welder. He also owned Warrendale Manufacturing, his own steel fabricating business in Dearborn, MI. He and his family relocated to this area in 1970 and he became a horse trainer at the former Waterford Park, and worked for a time at NRM in Leetonia. Ernie also enjoyed an occasional trip to area casinos.

Surviving him are his children: Denise M. Marcelt, and her longtime friend Bill Golembiewski, of Lisbon, Debra Robinson, and her husband Buddy, of Lisbon, and David J. Marcelt, and his wife Denise, of Charleston, SC. There are 3 grandchildren, Jason Robinson, and his wife Patti, of Boardman, Sarah Gaydos, and her husband Arin, of Lisbon, and Jacob Robinson, and his fiancé Brittany Hofmeister, of Cranberry, PA. There are 4 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Lauryn Gaydos, and Elijah and Averi Robinson, and his loyal pets Stella, Rocky and Leo.

Ernie was preceded by his wife Florence Czarnowski Marcelt on March 22, 2002, they were married on April 26, 1947. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded by a sister Genevieve Szpunar.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Fr. Jim Lang will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial service at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the St. George Catholic Church in Lisbon.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct full military honors. Following the burial friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.
