Ethel Mae Haney Waggle, 94

CHESTER – Ethel Mae Haney Waggle of Chester, WV, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Valley Hospice in Steubenville following a lengthy illness. She was 94.

Born in Chester on November 23, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Hazel Ashbaugh Haney. A Chester resident her entire life, Ethel Mae was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester, where she taught Sunday School for nearly 50 years. She was also a member of the Chester Junior Womens Club at one time.

Ethel Mae had graduated from Chester High School in 1940, and then received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ohio University in Athens. Ethel Mae taught 2nd and 3rd graders for over 30 years at the Jefferson School in Newell.

On November 16, 2000, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl “Wag” Waggle, Jr. They were married August 25, 1946. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James Haney.

Ethel Mae is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Hobbs, and her husband Randy, of Williamsburg, VA, Susan Laneve, of Beech Bottom, WV, a son-in-law Carmen Laneve of East Liverpool and her caregivers who were like family to her, Donette Louk and her husband Gary of Newell, and their son Scott.

Also left to cherish her memory are five grandchildren, Joseph Laneve, and his wife Allison; Marcy Hobbs; Jennifer Fulmer, and her husband Brian; Holly Hobbs; and Justin Hobbs and his wife Patricia, as well as three great-granddaughters.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m.

Rev. Katrina Lewis, longtime family Pastor and friend, will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester. Ethel Mae will be laid to rest next to her husband at Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

Ethel Mae’s granddaughter Marcy Hobbs is running in the London Marathon in April to help fund research in the cure for Parkinson’s Disease; therefore, in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: https://fundraise.michaeljfox.org/London-Marathon/Member/MyPage/831027/Marcy-Hobbs in recognition of Ethel Mae’s fight with neurological disorders.
