Obituary for Floyd E. Stansbury

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Floyd E. Stansbury, 101, of East Liverpool passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020 at his home.

Floyd was born in East Liverpool on June 18, 1918 a son of the late Charles M. and Elsie (Smith) Stansbury. Floyd retired from Smith & Phillips Furniture Company as a salesman where he worked for 40 plus years. He proudly served as a corporal in the US Army during WW II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Floyd was a member of East Liverpool First Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board and also served as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday School teacher and was a part of the Saturday Morning building crew. He was also a board member of Canaan Acres.

Floyd was an avid Golfer. He was a member of the East Liverpool High School state championship golf team. Floyd held the low score record at the former Highland Golf Course for many years.

Preceding Floyd in death were his wife of 60 years, whom he married September 5, 1938, Marguerite H. (McCoy) Stansbury; four brothers Harold, John, Richard and Paul Stansbury; three sisters Hazel Bekar, Mildred Croxall and Ruth Goodballet; grandson Ryan Stansbury; two sons-in-law Charles Govey and Bob Salisbury and grand daughter-in-law Jennifer Buchheit.

Left to cherish his memory are three sons Bob Stansbury of East Liverpool, Buzz Stansbury and his wife Ruth of Wellsville and Jim Stansbury and his wife Lori of East Liverpool; five daughters Martha Joan Govey of East Liverpool, Sue Buchheit and her husband Joe of Lisbon, Jackie Wilson and her husband Mark of East Liverpool, Margo Arnold and her husband Dennis of Lisbon and Beth Cianni and her husband Mike of Lisbon; 19 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Friends may visit Sunday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 1 to 5 p.m. Rev. Dr. Bob Sylvies of East Liverpool First Church of the Nazarene will conduct a funeral service Monday at 11 a.m. at East Liverpool First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
