Obituary for Frances Tridico (Winters)

Frances Winters Tridico, 87

YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Frances Winters Tridico, 87, of Columbiana, passed away May 6, 2016, at the St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown.

Born in East Liverpool, December 19, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Rosa Pugliese Winters. “Fran” as she was affectionately known, was the co-owner of the former Plaza Restaurant in Calcutta where she treated everyone, including her employees like guest in her home.

A resident of this area all her life and a 1947 graduate of East Liverpool High School, Fran was also a lifetime member of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and was active in her class reunion committee.

She had been a longtime member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where she had been active in the Altar & Rosary Society, and was currently a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana. For many years, she was involved in the Ladies Guild and the Jude’s Dudes Senior Group at St. Jude.

As an active member of the East Liverpool Pottery Festival Committee, she hosted many events which were held at the Masonic Lodge. Fran also belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, East Liverpool Junior Women’s Club, Business and Professional Women’s Club, and she was past president of the East Liverpool Lady Elks.

Fran was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard E. Smith and preceded by Philip V. Tridico, whom she married in 1989. She leaves a dear companion Thomas Simcox.

She is survived by her three sons, Robert D. Smith of Youngstown, Richard M. Smith of Columbiana and Stephen G. (Lynn) Smith of Delaware, OH, along with her three grandsons: Stephen Wesley, Christopher and William Smith, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews whom she adored. She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Joseph Smith.

Fran was a beloved and thoughtful godparent to thirteen godchildren.

In addition to her parents Fran was preceded in death by six sisters, Ginny Bruno, Matilda Paul, Mary Metz, Theresa Baiguini, Jenni Winters and Anna Winters. She was also preceded by her eight brothers, Frank, Joseph, Michael, Charles, Sam, Frank, Ralph and Raymond.

Father Christopher Cicero of the church will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Jude Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in memory in Fran’s name may be sent to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, ‪P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.‬‬

Fran loved life and helping everyone. She was known for all family members looking like her!
