Obituary for Fred L. Kane

Fred L. Kane, 88

EAST LIVERPOOL – Fred L. Kane, lifetime East Liverpool resident, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Hospice House in Poland. He was 88.

Born in East Liverpool, February 20, 1931, he was a son of the late Delmar and Mabel Kidder Kane. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1948, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. A faithful member of Boyce United Methodist Church, he was very active in church activities through the years, including the choir, Board of Trustees and mission trips to Ecuador, Bolivia and Haiti. For 56 years, he served on the Board of Hollow Rock Camp Meeting Association.

Fred worked all his life from the age of 9 when he was a golf caddie. He trained at the Deforest Institute in Chicago where he learned the electrical trade. He was a 50 year member of the IBEW and worked for several electrical companies in the area. He also owned and operated the Lamp Post electrical contracting business. He also owned L&B Donut Shop at one time and later became a real estate agent with Dorothy Crook, Bill Montgomery and Tate Hilbert.

Fred loved to sing, he was a member of the Crucible Chorus, Barbershop Chorus in East Liverpool and Steubenville, the Messiah Choir and the Community Choir. He also served the community as a member of the Community Improvement Corporation, the City Zoning Board and was the past president of the East Liverpool Relators Association. He was a member of the East Liverpool Lions Club for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, T. Charmaine Edgar Kane on June 24, 2003. The couple married August 3, 1949. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Bryan and a son, Randall A. Kane.

Survivors include a daughter, Saundra Grigsby and her husband, Ken, of Akron, and two sons, David E. Kane and his wife, Tracy, of Hubbard, Ohio and Michael A. Kane of East Liverpool. He also leaves nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. A sister survives as well, Dottie Seevers of East Liverpool.

Minister Jason Pancake will conduct a funeral service Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Boyce United Methodist Church. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the church for fellowship.

Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
