Obituary for Gerald C. Goodballet

CALCUTTA, OHIO – Gerald C. “Jerry” Goodballet, 95, of East Liverpool passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Calcutta Health Care Center.

Jerry was born in East Liverpool on September 24, 1925 a son of the late Bert and Dorothy (Nickelson) Goodballet. He was a 1943 graduate of East Liverpool High School and immediately entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in China, Burma and India (the CBI Theatre) during World War II.

Jerry worked at East Liverpool Fire Department, having served over 33 years before retiring as Assistant Chief on June 1, 1983. He was a member of Riddle Lodge #315 F&AM where he served as secretary for many years. Jerry was a very active member of the Valley of Steubenville Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite receiving the 33rd Degree in August of 1993. He also held memberships in the Elks Lodge #258, American Legion Post #374, East Liverpool Chapter #100 Royal Arch Masons, Keramos Council #95 and Pilgrim Commandery #55 and the East Liverpool Shrine Club. Jerry also served on the Carnegie Library board of trustees. He was a member of Emanuel Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder.

Preceding Jerry in death were two brothers Don Goodballet and Wayne Goodballet.

Left to Cherish his memory are his wife of 74 years, whom he married August 30, 1946, Charlotte (Birch) Goodballet; two daughters Connie Frederick and her husband Steve of East Liverpool and Linda Harrold of Lisbon; three grandchildren Julie Ford and her husband John of New Middletown, OH, Doug English and his wife Marci of Columbiana and Christopher Yanni and his wife Nicole of Saco, ME and five great-grandchildren Callie Ford, Jake Ford, Jameson English, Madeline English and Charlotte Yanni.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday where the family will be present from 4 to 8 p.m. Margie Zellars CRE of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church will conduct a funeral service Saturday 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Riverview Cemetery where Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct full military honors. Masonic Service Friday 7:30 p.m. with the 33rd Degree ring ceremony to follow. In compliance with Ohio state regulations with concerns of the COVID-19 virus masks must be worn at all times in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed in Jerry’s memory to Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 767 Park Boulevard, East Liverpool, OH 43920
