Obituary for Rev. Harry C. Fox, Ph.D.

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Reverend Harry Cutter Fox, Ph.D., passed from this life to life eternal, on April 12, 2023 at the age of 84. Pastor Fox lived a wonderfully blessed life. He was a devoted father, husband, and servant of God.

After graduating from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio in 1966, and receiving a Master of Divinity degree from Hamma School of Theology, Harry was ordained into the Lutheran Church of America on May 25, 1966. He took his first call as pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Carteret, NJ in May 1966. In 1967, he married Pamela Kay Jones, and together they raised a family and lived a wonderful life. While in Carteret, Harry attended New York University, receiving an STM in Pastoral Counseling and attended the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health, where he received certification as a counselor. After serving Zion in Carteret for 6 years, he moved back to Springfield, Ohio, where he was the pastor of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church until May 1, 1986. During that time, he also received his Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling from Columbia Pacific University. In May of 1986, Pastor Fox accepted a call to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Liverpool, Ohio, where he served for 17 years until retiring in October 2003.

Always an active Christian servant, Reverend Fox served as fire and police chaplain in Carteret. He was instrumental in merging two intercity congregations in Springfield, and he served on the Lutheran Welfare Board, as well as on the board of Kent State University, East Liverpool. He was also an adjunct faculty member at Wittenberg for Hamma School of Theology working with interns while residing in Springfield.

With a career spanning seven decades, Harry lived his life to serve others, and to preach the word of the Lord. Even after he “retired”, he continued to work by preaching God’s scripture, impacting lives, and spreading love and cheer.

Surviving him is his wife of 56 years, Pam, whom Harry loved with all of his heart and with all of his passion. He and Pam were inseparable for nearly 60 years. Along with his loving wife, Harry is survived by his two children: Aimee Turkovich (J.B.) and Steven Fox (Melissa), his five grandchildren: Miranda Stevenson (Matt) and Corin Turkovich, and Jacob, Alyssa, and Braeden Fox; and a great-grandchild Nora Stevenson. In addition to his parents Gladys and Harry Fox, a sister, Lorraine, preceded him in death.

Friends may visit Monday afternoon and evening from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in East Liverpool where friends may also visit one hour prior to the service.
