Obituary for Harry Allen Johnston

FREDERICKTOWN - Harry Allen “Uncle Al” Johnston, of Fredericktown, passed away suddenly at home, Friday morning, May 27, 2016. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday.

Born in Industry, Pennsylvania, May 22, 1936, he was a son of the late Harry Jennings Johnston and Helen Smith Johnston. A resident of this area all his life, he worked at Lisbon Tire for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Known by most of friends as “Uncle Al”, he loved being “Pap” and “G-Pap” to his family the most.

He was a member of the Tri-County 4-Wheelers for many years where he raced Jeeps and made countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita “Sis” Johnston. The couple married June 17, 1962. He was also preceded in death by two infant sisters, a brother Olen Johnston, and two sisters, Edna Cekovich, and Betty Ferrebee.

Together, he and “Sis” had three children: a daughter, Marji Jo Johnston Keyes (Chuck); and two sons, Allen Scott Johnston (Erica), and Raymond Duane Johnston (Cindy), all of East Liverpool.

He will be sadly missed by his 8 grandchildren: Tiffany Keyes, Terry Keyes, Darren Keyes, Holly Keyes, Mariah Swank, Andrew Tice, Alex Tice and Julianna Johnston; as well as 6 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia “Nin” Johnston of Industry, and Mary Leport of Industry; a sister-in-law Penny Pyles of Fredericktown; two brothers-in-law Morley Marsden (Alice) of Daytona Beach, and Jim Dailey (Pat) of Elkton; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct military honors.

Burial will be at Clarkson Cemetery.
