Obituary for Harry A. Skelton

Harry A. Skelton, born in East Liverpool on December 20, 1936, passed away at the Calcutta Health Care Center at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017. He was 81.

A son of the late Harry and Myrtle Sheppard Skelton, he spent his entire life in this area and attended East Liverpool High School. In his later years, he became involved in the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association.

Harry had worked at Crucible Steel until its closing in 1982; at that time, he became a youth leader at the Louis Tobin Center in Lisbon, and was also a bus driver for East Liverpool City Schools, where he retired in 2007.

His wife, Mary F. Jones Skelton, survives him at home. They were married April 10, 1985. Together, they belonged to the Avondale Baptist Church. Harry was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was involved with the East Liverpool Lodge #681 F&AM, the Scottish Rite Association of Steubenville, the East Liverpool Chapter #100 of Royal Arch Masons, Keramos Council #95 Royal and Select Masons, and Pilgrim Commandery #55 Knights Templar. Harry and Mary also enjoyed their memberships in the East Liverpool Lions Club.

Additional survivors include his children: Sherrill Lynn McKinnon of East Liverpool; Paula Kay Skelton of Salem; Charles A. “Chuck” Skelton and his wife, Peggy, of East Liverpool; and Randall S. Skelton, of East Liverpool.

There are two stepdaughters: Pat Heacock of East Liverpool and Tammy Curran and her husband, Pat, of Salem, along with a stepson, Bill Strobel of Omaha, Nebraska, and a daughter he considered his own, Liz Allgood and her husband, Bob, also of East Liverpool. A brother, Richard Skelton, also survives in East Liverpool.

Harry also leaves behind nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A grandson, Jason Skelton and a great-granddaughter, Kyla Roush, preceded him in death.

The family will be present to receive friends at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Pastor Terry Weyand of the church will officiate at a service to be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Harry will be laid to rest at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
