Obituary for James A Moss

JAMES A. “JIM” MOSS, 81

EAST LIVERPOOL – Well-known area pharmacist, James A. “Jim” Moss passed away suddenly at the age of 81on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Calcutta Health Care Center. He had lived most of his life on Berkshire Road in East Liverpool.

A son of the late James B. and Sara Moon Moss, he was born in East Liverpool on September 26, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of East Liverpool High School, where he was a member of the baseball team, and he received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956.

He was a United States Army veteran, and belonged to the Smith’s Ferry United Methodist Church. At one time, he had been a member of the Beaver Local School District Board of Education.

Jim began his longtime career as a pharmacist at Bloor’s Drug Store in downtown East Liverpool, and later was associated with People’s Drugs. For over 35 years, he managed the former Thrift Drug in Calcutta, giving sound advice and a personal touch to countless customers over the years.

His wife, Bertha G. Hanlin Moss, whom he married on September 22, 1956, survives him at home.

Also surviving is a daughter, Carol L. Moss (Jodi Hall) of Brecksville, OH, and a son, James C. (Cheryl) Moss, of Erie, Michigan. There are two grandchildren, Michael Moss and Ashley Moss, both of Erie.

Jim was preceded in death on December 8, 1995 by a son, Joseph Vance Moss. He was also preceded by a brother, Jay Moss, and by two sisters, Jean Madison and Donna Ketch.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Rev. Willard Chuck Adkins of the church will officiate at services to be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide military honors. Following the burial, family and friends will return to the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
