James A. Nelson, 76
EAST LIVERPOOL – James A. Nelson, of East Liverpool, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the East Liverpool City Hospital. He was 76.
Born in East Liverpool, July 25, 1944, he was a son of the late Elmer and Bessie Ash Nelson. He attended East Liverpool High School and remained a Potters fan for the rest of his life. For many years, the family lived on St. George Street and Jim had a special place in his heart for the East End kids. For nearly 42 years, Jim worked at Weirton Steel until his retirement. He was a member of Hope Christian Fellowship in Wellsville where he was an usher and cut the grass. A Vietnam veteran, he served with the U.S. Army. He was proud of his Irish heritage.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Jenkins Lodge 471. He was a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, the York Rite, East Liverpool Chapter 100 Royal Arch Masons, Keramos Council 95, and the Pilgrim Commandery 55.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara M. Mouse Nelson, at home. The couple married February 4, 1966. He is also survived by a daughter, Kellie Jean Greathouse of Wellsville, and two grandchildren: Madison Greathouse and Robbie Greathouse.
There are four brothers: Rod Nelson, and his wife Sue, of East Liverpool, Carl Nelson, and his wife Mildred, of Florida, Heber Nelson, and his wife Birdie, of East Liverpool, Charlie Nelson, and his wife Terena, of East Liverpool, a sister-in-law, Bonnie Cochran and her husband, Gary, of East Liverpool, and a brother-in-law, Robert Mouse of Irondale. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Charles Edward Nelson and Kacie Jo Nelson, a son-in-law, Robert Greathouse, a brother, Elmer Lee Nelson, and his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Minnie Mouse.
Pastor Donny Lytle conducted a private funeral service Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home. The Jenkins Lodge conducted a Masonic service and the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group provided military honors.
Burial was at Spring Hill Cemetery, Wellsville.
