Obituary for Jane Carter Bohannon Moss

Suffolk, Virginia- Jane Carter Bohannon Moss, 88, of Custis Road passed away in the afternoon on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio on July 24, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Namon and Henrietta Moore Carter. Mrs. Moss moved to Suffolk, Virginia eight years ago after retiring from the Carter Catering Service. She also was on the board of the Community Resource Center and worked for their summer feeding program. She attended of the New Hope Baptist Church and she also belonged to the Bleak Street Civic Group, the Women’s American Legion in Midland, Pennsylvania, the Elks Lodge in Midland, the NAACP and the Tri-State Promoters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Moss, whom she married June 1st, 1957, in 1968.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Jane Moss of Youngstown, Sandra Gardner of Suffolk and Sherry Moss of Suffolk; one son, Larry Bohannon of New Sewickley, Pennsylvania; and one step-son, Nathan Bohannon of Youngstown; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There are eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and twenty-four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Bohannon; two step-sisters, Mary Smith and Jane Miller; and three brothers, Namon Carter, Norman Carter and Benford Carter.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, November 27th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio. Pastor Ernest Peachey, Sr. of the 2nd Baptist Church in East Liverpool will officiate a funeral service on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Tod Cemetery on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio.
