Obituary

Obituary for Jayneen Louise "Jay" Duffy (Clapsadle)

Chester, West Virginia - Jayneen L. Duffy, 68, of Maxwell Avenue passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at 12:30 PM at East Liverpool City Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born April 29, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Mary C. Hague Clapsadle. A lifetime area resident, except for a brief period living abroad in Pennsylvania, she was retired from the First Energy Company after working 32 years as a microfilm processor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her half-brother, Dallas Morris

Jayneen will be missed by her family and friends. Her intellect and sense of humor were well-liked by her friends and family and feared by everyone else. Jayneen possessed the Clapsadle wit of her father and was a formidable adversary in any debate, which served her well in her role as Union Steward in IBEW Local 29. Jayneen enjoyed her active role in the union and thumbing her nose at authority in general.

Jayneen played by her own rules and was uncompromising and unapologetic about her ideals and REALLY UNAPOLOGETIC regarding perceived slights against family or friends.
Jayneen’s family is honoring her request for no public services to be held, although she would appreciate an authentic Viking send-off. Unfortunately, it is impossible to get a permit for a ceremony where she is surrounded by the weapons of slain enemies in a flaming canoe.

Jayneen is survived by her daughter, Melanie Duffy of Chester; and her son, Joshua Duffy and his wife Jennifer, of Boardman. There are five granddaughters, Jenna Tate, Ava Tate, Dakota Tate, Hannah Duffy and Rebecca Duffy (and yes, it was deliberate that their names all end alike).

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery where a private family service will be held.

The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of all local arrangements.

To Joshua, Jennifer, Hannah, and Rebecca, I am truly sorry for the passing of this great, funny woman! She made me laugh every day in high school. Please know my prayers are with you all. In high school, Jayneen knew me as Cindi Flasco but you guys will remember me (hopefully) as Mrs. Whiteman, Hannah and Rebecca's Kdg. teacher. My love to all of you.

Jay and I were BVPS ‘friends’ for over 30 years. We spent many midnight shifts together talking about old musicals, tattoos, drag queens, etc.

One of my favorite memories:

Middle of the night - I ran into her at the SEB. She was ‘attired’ in a hot pink jogging outfit.

I said, “Jay, you look pretty in pink.” She responded in her typical fashion, “I look like a giant bottle of Pepto Bismol!” Lol

I am so sad to hear of her passing. The world has truly lost an exceptional character. RIP crazy lady; I will never forget you.
