Obituary for Jean Mary Sturtz (Childs)

East Liverpool, Ohio- Jean M. Sturtz, 81, of Santa Clara on Sprucevale Road passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 10:58 p.m. at the East Liverpool City Hospital.

Born September 13, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna Thornby Childs. A lifetime area resident, she was a retired cashier from the former Glenmoor Value King after 25 years service. A member of the Smithferry United Methodist Church, she also belonged to the 500 Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. “Chuck” Sturtz, whom she married October 31, 1977.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ronshak and her husband, Ron of Westlake, Louisiana and Janet Guillory and her husband, Michael of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one step-daughter, Kathy Costello of Youngstown, Ohio; and one step-son, Dave Sturtz and his wife, Sherry of Youngstown, Ohio.

There are ten grandchildren, Krista Speaks and her husband, Keith, Kara Lormand and her husband, Donnie, Melissa Jackson, Megan Wright and her husband, Michael, Jason Carpenter, Kasha Carpenter, Kennon Guillory, Jenny Bayer, Jamie Fonner, Alex Sturtz and Hailey Sturtz; and ten great-grandchildren, Erika, Paige, Drew, Drayke, Brittney, Kiarra, Jordan, Makayla, Dylan and Makenzie; and two great great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is one brother, Bob Childs and his wife, Suzanne of Florida; and one brother-in-law, Daniel Gallagher and his wife, Ruth Ann of East Liverpool; and a special friend, Debbie Mackall of East Liverpool.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by one son, Earl Joseph “Joe” McDevitt on February 22, 2010; as well as two sisters, Naomi “Nonie” Smith and Lois Gallagher; and two brothers, Charles “Chickie” Childs and John Childs.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Reverend Chuck Adkins of the church will officiate a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Immediately following the service family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center.
