Obituary for Joe Marva Williams

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Joe Marva Williams, 86, of East Liverpool passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at her home with her family by her side.

Joe Marva was born in East Liverpool on September 24, 1935 a daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Miller) Reed. She was a member of the Sheridan A.M.E. church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday School superintendent, stewardess and financial secretary. Joe Marva was a lifelong member of the East Liverpool and Wellsville NAACP serving as the branch president at one point. She was a member of the Emanon Civic Group. Joe Marva was a poll member for the Columbiana County Board of Elections. She also served on the Columbiana County Board of Corrections. Joe Marva was an avid bowler and played in several city bowling leagues and a member of the Women’s Bowling Association. She was a campfire Girl Scout leader. Joe Marva retired from Ergon the former Quaker State Oil Company.

Preceding Joe Marva in death were her husband, whom she married August 8, 1959, Homer E. Williams, Sr; grandson William D. Williams; four sisters Kay Waters, Mabel Dorsey, Virginia Douglas and Geraldine Cox; three brothers Lawrence, Jessie and Raymond Reed and daughter-in-law Angela Williams.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Gloria “Angel” White and her husband Calvin of East Liverpool and Rev. Patricia “Petey” Williams of Boardman; four sons Homer E. “Big Boy” Williams, Jr. and his partner Jackie, Howard E. “The Duck” Williams and his wife Tammy of East Liverpool, Eric R. “Bert” Williams and his partner Kim of East Liverpool and Francis A. “Frank” Williams and his wife Wilma of East Liverpool; sister Janet Latimer and her husband Charles of Lorain, OH; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way; one great great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many special friends.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Saturday where the family will be present from 12 to 2 and 6 to 8 p.m. Rev. Brenda L. Johnson of Sheridan A.M.E Church will conduct a service on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial at Spring Grove Cemetery on Monday at 2 p.m.
