Obituary for John Fisher Dray

JOHN F. “JACK” DRAY, 82

EAST LIVERPOOL – John F. “Jack” Dray, born in East Liverpool on August 20, 1933, passed away peacefully at Valley Oaks Care Center Wednesday evening, March 2, 2016. He was 82.

A son of the late Byron C. and Margaret Fisher Dray, he spent his entire lifetime in this area, primarily at Threshold Residential Home in recent years until moving to Valley Oaks.

Jack made a lasting impression wherever he went – whether spending time at the Senior Center in Lisbon or working at the Sheltered Workshop. He loved riding the bus, bowling, working jigsaw puzzles, coloring, eating, playing records, watching game shows on TV, singing old time hymns – and following the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As a young man, Jack helped his mother and dad around the house and yard; later on, his mother would say he became her “legs”, hanging clothes on the line and helping with grocery shopping. While at Threshold, he was able to travel with his family, and especially enjoyed two Disney cruises and a visit to Disney World.

He faithfully attended Long’s Run Church since he was a young boy.

Surviving him is a brother, David Dray and his wife, Barbara, of East Liverpool. Another brother, Wallace Dray, preceded him in death on April 27, 2006.

Jack also leaves behind two nephews, Dan Dray and Craig Dray, as well as a niece, Mary Ann Benedetta and her husband, Anthony. There are four great-nieces: Jessica Dray, Courtney Dray, Shelby Benedetta and Sarah Benedetta, as well as two great-nephews: Drew Dray and his wife, Kiley, and Brock Dray, along with two great-great nieces, Henley and Maci, and a great-great nephew, Aiden.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.

Services will take place at the funeral home Monday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Vel Vais of Glenmoor Presbyterian Church officiating.

Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.

Jack will be laid to rest at Long’s Run Cemetery.
