Obituary for John David Neer
East Liverpool, Ohio- John D. Neer, 81, of Ashland Avenue passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 12:43 a.m. at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Born February 25, 1939 in Martins Ferry, Ohio, he was a son of the late Carl and Elsie Wurschum Neer. He spent most of his life in this area. John retired in 1982 from the former Crucible Steel Company in Midland, Pennsylvania after 20 years in the Met-Lab.
A veteran of the United States Army, John loved to snow ski, scuba dive and parachute. He really enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Key West, Florida. He was a member of the American Legion Post #374 and the VFW Post #66.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Beverly J. Neer, whom he married October 8, 1965, at home. One daughter, Cathy Applegate and her husband, Lawrence “Chuck” of East Liverpool; and two sons, John R. Neer and his wife, Amy Cain of East Liverpool, and Joe D. Barbaree of Athens, Ohio. He is survived by one granddaughter, Alexis Smith and her husband, Tyler of Lisbon, Ohio, and one great-grandson, James Lawrence Smith.
In addition, he also leaves behind three sisters, Marilyn Roush of East Palestine, Ohio, Sue Scott and her husband, Terry of East Liverpool and Brenda Webb and her husband, Steve of Seabrook, Texas; and two brothers, Carl Neer, Jr. and his wife, Bernice of Colorado and Merle Neer and his wife, Myung of Henderson, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Caroline Neer and Lois Pusateri; and one brother, Richard K. Neer.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Pastor Susan Pickering, sister-in-law of Beverly, will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Full Military Honors will be accorded.
In compliance with Ohio State regulations with concerns of the COVID-19 virus everyone attending the calling hours and funeral service is required to wear a mask and observe social distancing.
