Obituary for John R. "Bud" Yantz

John R. “Bud” Yantz, 83

PITTSBURGH – John R. “Bud” Yantz, of New Manchester, passed away Sunday evening, October 6, 2019 at UPMC Montifiore Hospital following a sudden illness. He was 83.

Born in East Liverpool, July 30, 1936, he was a son of the late Earl and Hazel Eckert Yantz. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1954, he worked at Weirton Steel for 38 years. A member of the New Manchester Christian Church, he was the church treasurer as well as a deacon and trustee. For many years, he was an active 4-H volunteer and was instrumental in the development of Camp Aura. At one time, he was a member of the New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department where he served as the assistant chief and treasurer.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Glass Yantz, whom he married September 3, 1960. He also leaves a daughter, Susan L. James and her husband, Ron, of New Manchester, and a son, David R. Yantz and his wife, Elaine, of Wheeling. There are four grandchildren: Carrie Dunfee and her husband, Greg, Alec James and his wife, Audreanna, Cierra Yantz and Kaylie Yantz; and two great-grandsons: Anthony Dunfee and Grier George.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sara McCoy and Geraldine Harvey.

Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Minister Tim Gola will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Union Cemetery in New Manchester.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the New Manchester Christian Church for fellowship.
