Obituary for Linda L. Wickstrom (Laneve)

Linda L. Wickstrom, 78

EAST LIVERPOOL – Linda L. Wickstrom, of Newell, passed away suddenly Monday, February 22, 2021 at the East Liverpool City Hospital. She was 78.

Born in Newell, October 28, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Frank A. and Mildred R. Bailey Laneve. She was raised in Newell and attended high school at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Pittsburgh. She would later graduate from Carlow College where she earned a degree in mathematics and minored in physics. After college, Linda was a math teacher at Chester Junior High and later worked at Baltimore Business Machines in sales and then became chief programmer at Babcock and Wilcox.

A member of Sacred Heart Church and had been attending Holy Trinity Parish, she authored a pictorial history book of St. Aloysius Church. She was associated with the Hancock County Republican Party where she served on the executive committee as parliamentarian. Linda was an avid golfer at one time and authored the book “Possum Crossing, A Tale of A Place in West Virginia.”

She is survived by her husband, Gail A. Wickstrom, whom she married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on July 6, 1974. She is also survived by a sister, Donna Cercone and her husband, Eugene, of Conway, Pennsylvania, and a brother, Dr. Samuel A. Laneve of Dayton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred A. Laneve, Gloria R. Laneve and Marilyn Kautz, as well as a brother, Dr. John F. Laneve.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Scott Kopp at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Parish. Friends may visit Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park. Masks and social distancing are required.
