Obituary for L. Kent Garvey

L. Kent Garvey, 87

EAST LIVERPOOL – L. Kent Garvey, of East Liverpool, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020 at his home. He was 87.

Born in East Liverpool, January 1, 1933, he was a son of the late Albert Michael Garvey and Wilma B. Oliver Garvey. A lifetime area resident, for 22 years he worked with the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 1984. Previously he worked at the East Liverpool Police Department and had also worked as a Wells Fargo Guard as well as Penn Power as a senior investigator. At one time, Kent operated a courier service for the former 1st National Community Bank. He was a member of the Highway Tabernacle in Youngstown.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie “Margie” Garvey, at home. The couple married October 8, 1951. A daughter survives as well, Candice Weir and her husband, John, of Punta Gorda, Florida. There are six grandchildren: Angela Galloway and her husband, Adam, Gretchen Simpson and her husband, Michael, Jason Garvey and his wife, Amanda, James “Jamie” Weir and his wife, Brittany, Carrie King and her husband, Patrick, and James “Jimmy” Garvey and his wife, Kim; six great-grandchildren: Morgan, Karah, Emily, Patrick, Parker and Stella. A daughter-in-law survives as well, Charlotte Garvey.

In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by a son, Collin Garvey, as well as two brothers, Albert Garvey and Dwight Garvey.

Pastor Dirk Hall of the Living Well Church will conduct a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit two hours prior to the service. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
