Obituary for Lucille A. Curtis (Southall)

Mrs. Lucille Amanda Southall Curtis passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at her home on Swickard Drive in East Liverpool. She now joins her Lord and Savior and many, many loved ones who were waiting for her in Heaven.

A daughter of the late William J. and Irene Marie Cary Southall, Lucille was born at home in East Liverpool on July 12, 1925. She was a 1943 graduate of East Liverpool High School and had spent her entire life in this area with the exception of a short period of time in West Virginia.

Lucille proudly raised her children and later was honored to work in the homes of the Horgers, Hills, Brookes and Thompsons, and she considered them all a part of her own family. She also served for many years at the East Liverpool Country Club.

She was a faithful servant of the Lord and had been an active member of Sheridan A.M.E. Church, where she served on virtually every committee and had been a stewardess. She found every opportunity she could to testify and share her love of Jesus.

She was preceded in death on August 4, 1988 by her husband, Stanley K. Curtis, Sr., whom she married in 1949.

Surviving are her children: Stanola Armstrong, with whom she resided; Deborah Smith and her husband, Phillip, of Houston, TX; Anita Jemison and her husband, Keith, of Akron; Stanley K. Curtis, Jr. of East Liverpool; and William Gerald Curtis and his wife, Shirley, also of East Liverpool. Lucille was also preceded in death by another son, Anthony R. “Tony” Curtis, who died in 1988.

There are nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with a sister, Yvonne Bankston of Atlanta, GA, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Others siblings who preceded her in death were Delores Wright, Charles L. Southall, William D. Southall, and Bernice E. “Bud” Southall.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Lucille’s children will honor their mother at a Homegoing service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Brenda Johnson of the church assisting.

Lucille will be buried next to her husband at Spring Grove Cemetery. Following the service, the family would welcome everyone to join them at River Christian Fellowship in Empire, where a luncheon will be served.
