EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Marilyn J. Wolfe, 91, longtime East Liverpool resident passed from her earthly home to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at East Liverpool City Hospital.
Marilyn was born in East Liverpool on December 16, 1930 a daughter of the late Thomas Howard and Mary A. (Burrows) Wolfe, Jr. She graduated in 1948 from the East Liverpool High School and in 1949 she graduated from the Ohio Valley Business College. Marilyn worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in the East Liverpool, Steubenville, and Lakewood, OH offices. She later continued with the telephone company in Denver, CO. Marilyn was employed at Crucible Steel Corporation for twenty years until their closing in 1982.
She served as Executive Director of the United Way of Southern Columbiana County.
Marilyn was a member of the Business and Professional Women Club for 32 years, Eastern Star Crystal Chapter 18 for 24 years, and East Liverpool City Hospital Women’s Auxiliary for 20 years serving as a Surgical Hostess. She was a member of the East Liverpool Lions Club for 20 years serving as President in 2000-2001. She received The Lion of the Year award in 2001 and was presented the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2011. She was a past board member of the Salvation Army and also served for eleven years on the Columbiana County Community Action Credit Counseling board.
Marilyn was a proud “Potter”, she belonged to the Tower Club of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association and was active with her class of 1948. She served as a volunteer delivering Meals On Wheels. She was a longtime member of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she served as president of the Women in the Church (WIC) and was a member of the Pearl Davison Missionary Circle. Most recently she held membership at The First Church of Christ Disciples.
Marilyn always has a great love of animals and rescued and cared for the welfare of many during her lifetime. She had many interests and loved to travel in her youth visiting almost every state in the U.S., including Hawaii and traveling abroad. She was an avid golfer, bowler, hiker, photographer, amateur oil painter and enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Though she was always an avid reader, to quote her “in advanced years reading was the most activity I was involved in.”
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her special aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends who were very dear to her heart.
Per her request there will be no calling hours. A private funeral service was held at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
