Obituary for Mark J. Scarafile

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA – Mark J. Scarafile, 59, of East Liverpool passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA after a short illness in the arms of his children.

Mark was born in Utica, New York on September 17, 1961. He worked at Pittsburgh International Airport for 37 years where he worked as a quality control supervisor for American Airlines. While working for American Airlines Mark made numerous trips to Germany to act as a liaison handling many aspects such as planning, testing, inspecting and coordinating the purchase of new airplanes. He was a graduate of New Hartford High School class of 1980 and Riverside School of Aeronautics in Utica, NY. Mark had a passion for rebuilding and restoring automobiles. Some of his greatest works included his jeeps and Pontiac GTO which he built from the ground up. Mark loved to visit his family’s property in upstate New York and spending time in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and listening to music. His greatest pride and joy were his two children.

Mark’s loving family includes his parents Elizabeth “Liz” (Russo) Scarafile and the late Angelo “Angie” Scarafile; two brothers Andy Scarafile and his wife Sharon and Michael Scarafile; late sister Laurie Riffle; many nieces and nephews; son Salvatore Scarafile; daughter Santina Kenney and her husband Ben; former spouse and mother of his children Christy Scarafile and his significant other Christina Sussmann.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Monday where the family will be present from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. and at the Eannace Funeral Home in Utica, NY on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. where Pastor David Ossenfort will conduct a service at Eannace Funeral Home Thursday at 7 p.m. Burial will be on Friday at Calvary Cemetery in Utica, NY.
