Obituary for Mary Alice Cupp

Mary Alice Maley Cupp, 94

EAST LIVERPOOL – Mary Alice Maley Cupp, of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Valley Oaks Care Center following a lengthy illness. She was 94.

Born in East Liverpool, April 6, 1925, a daughter of the late Peter F. and Veronica Vogt Maley, she was a lifetime area resident. A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1943, she then graduated from Ohio Valley Business College in 1944. For 25 years she worked for the Columbiana County Board of Elections where she retired as the director in 1990. Prior to that, she spent 13 years in the payroll department at Hall China and two years at Potters Savings and Loan. Following her retirement, she was a part-time secretary for the East Liverpool Civil Service Commission.

She was a member of the Columbiana County Democratic Central Committee from 1968 to 2000 and served as treasurer of the Columbiana County Democrats for 15 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church where she was a faithful member of the choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Peter Cupp and James Michael Cupp, and three brothers, James, Thomas and Jack Maley.

Left to cherish her memory are: her son, John Joseph “Joe” Cupp and his wife, Marilyn, of Columbiana, three granddaughters: Jessica Cupp, Caitlyn Haught and Ashley Cupp along with two great-grandchildren: Ryder and Brooklyn. She is also survived by special nieces Barb Creaturo and Theresa Kopp as well as a special nephew Pat Maley.

Monsignor William J. Connell will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Aloysius Church at 1:00 p.m. Friday. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
