Obituary for Mary K. Hocking (Duffy)
East Palestine, Ohio- Mary K. Hocking, 102, formerly of Etruria Street, East Liverpool, Ohio passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 12:35 a.m. at the Covington Skilled Nursing Center following a brief illness.
Born August 30, 1917 in East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late James M. and Kathryn Geon Duffy. She spent most of her life in this area. At one time she worked at the former W.H. Vodrey Law Office in East Liverpool as a secretary and for the B.O.P.
She was a member of the former St. Ann Catholic Church where she helped with the St. Ann Guild as well as the Altar Cleanup Group. Currently, she was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church. Her life was dedicated to raising her family and doing whatever was needed for her church and her daily prayers were most important to the beginning of each day. She loved cross stitch, was a voracious reader, enjoyed music and worked many crossword puzzles. Mama always had a smile for anyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Hocking, whom she married November 29, 1941, on February 7, 1995. Survivors include five daughters, Kay Manecke of East Liverpool, Mary Bucher and her husband, Joseph of Wellsville, Ann Watkin of Lakewood, Colorado, Lysbeth Klosterman and her husband, Michael of Columbus, Ohio and Susan Gauron and her husband, J.D. of Columbus, Ohio; and two sons, Robert T. Hocking, Jr. and his wife, Penni of Beaver Creek,Ohio and Richard Hocking and his wife, Susan of Powell, Ohio.
There are 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, James J. Hocking; four brothers, James “Beebo” Duffy, Raymond Duffy, Donald Duffy and Bill “Herk” Duffy; and one son-in-law, Bob Manecke.
In compliance with Ohio state regulations with concerns of the COVID-19 virus Fr. Scott Kopp will officiate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11:00a.m. at the Holy Trinity Parish at St. Aloysius Church where masks must be worn at all times.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
The family requests contributions to the FISH Organization.
