Wellsville, Ohio- Mildred L. “Millie” Powell, 97, of Glasgow Road passed away Monday, June 28th, 2021 at 12:35 p.m. at her residence surrounded by her family.
Born September 1st, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Clara Voelzow Farrell. A resident of this area since 1941 when she got married, she was retired from the Beaver Local School District after 19 years starting out as a cook and then retiring in 1974 as their Director of Food Services.
She was the oldest member of the Yellow Creek Presbyterian Church. She also attended the Riverside Presbyterian Church. She had been a Deacon, Treasurer, sang in the choir and prepared all meals for various church functions over the years.
Millie had traveled with her trailer to 48 states, spent the winters in Texas, loved playing cards, made hats for cancer patients and loved reading… she estimated 200 books a year. She was a graduate of Freedom High School Class of 1941.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. “Charlie” Powell, whom she married August 15, 1941, on January 18th, 1987.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Plate and her husband, Robert of Cincinnati, Ohio.
There are seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Dixie Powell; one brother-in-law, John Lewis and his wife , Janet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Powell, one sister, Ethel Berg; and by one brother, Earl E. Farrell.
Pastor Mark Blakeley of the 1st Christian Church of Wellsville will officiate a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio. Friends may visit the family from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests contributions be made to either the DAV (disabled veterans), the Lupus Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
