Obituary for Paul W. Jackson Sr.

EAST LIVERPOOL, OHIO – Paul W. Jackson, Sr., 86, of East Liverpool passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at East Liverpool City Hospital.

Paul was born in East Liverpool on November 14, 1932 a son of the late John R. and Winifred (Mays) Jackson. He was a graduate of East Liverpool High School class of 1950. He loved playing football for the Potters. He attended Youngstown State and Geneva College. Paul graduated cum laude from Franciscan University in Steubenville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Paul was a veteran of the US Navy honorably serving during the Korean War.

Paul retired from the Beaver Local School District in 1995 where he taught math. He was a former football and wrestling coach at Beaver Local and Oak Glen. While coaching wrestling, Beaver Local won their first Northeast Sectional Wrestling Tournament and several wrestling tournaments. Paul began the Beaver Local Invitational High School Wrestling Tournament which later became the Everett Hoppel Memorial Tournament. He coached baseball at several levels at the Baseball Complex. Paul served as the president of the T-ball League and Pony League for several years. He was inducted into the Beaver Local Athletic Hall of Fame on March 25, 2009.

Paul was a member of the Ohio School Board Association and a former president of the Beaver Local Board of Education. He also was a maintenance foreman for S.H. Bell.

Paul was a member of Northside Community Church where he sang in the choir and was involved in the Thursday Night Men’s Bible Study Group. He was a former trustee and elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was a member of East Liverpool High School Alumni Association, the Fawcett Foundation, Elks Lodge #258, Eagles of Huron and American Legion Post #736. He was also a member of East Liverpool Lodge 681, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville, Al Koran Shrine in Columbus and Osiris Shrine in Wheeling.

Preceding Paul in death were his first wife Ruth Ann Jackson on August 23, 1998; daughter Penny Jackson; two sisters Myrtle Dobronz and Donna Beaver and four brothers Frank, Joseph, Thomas and John W. Jackson.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, whom he married, May 20, 1999, Virginia “Gini” (McIntosh) Jackson; two sons Paul W. Jackson, Jr. of Pennsylvania and Phillip Jackson, Sr. of East Liverpool; grandson, whom he raised, Phillip Jackson, Jr. and his wife Holly of East Liverpool; six grandsons Caleb Jackson, Dorian Jackson, Kamren Klakos, John David Morris, Jerry Paul Jackson and Josh Jackson; three great grandchildren and two step daughters Heidi Anne Morris of Glenmoor and Lori Kay Klakos and her husband Ed of Negley.

Friends may visit Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Community Church will conduct a funeral service Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery where Tri State Veterans Burial Group will perform military honors. East Liverpool Lodge 681 will provide Masonic services on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Immediately following the service, friends and family will gather at the Northside Community Church for fellowship.
