Obituary for Paul Allen Jones Sr.

PAUL ALLEN JONES, SR., 65

EAST LIVERPOOL – Paul Allen Jones, Sr., 65, went to be with his Lord after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday morning, March 15, 2016. Born on January 1, 1951 in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Mary Wilkinson Jones Spangler and William H. Jones., Jr.

An area resident for most of his life, Paul was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1970, and served aboard the U.S.S. Little Rock as a Fire Controlman from 1971 until 1975 in the Mediterranean and on the East Coast. He attended the New Castle School of Trades in 1997, where he graduated with honors and earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology. He worked for several area businesses during his lifetime, including the Beaver Local School System in maintenance and Pennsylvania Power Company at the Bruce Mansfield facility in Shippingport, PA. Upon graduation from the New Castle School of Trades, he was employed at Alliance Machine Company in Alliance, Ohio, and later with the FAA at the Greater Pittsburgh Airport control tower as a Maintenance Engineer – a position that he loved along, with all his co-workers, and often said it was the best job he ever had, until his illness forced his retirement in 2014.

On October 8, 1977, he married Cheryl Ann Craven, whom he often called the “love of his life”. Always together, they raised a son, Paul Allen Jones, Jr., and shared many interests including golf, woodworking, ham radio and area history. Paul was a NHRA racing fan and loved attending annually with son, Paul, Jr. at Norwalk Race Park in Norwalk, Ohio, for the past 23 years.

Paul was a member of the Elks Lodge #258 in East Liverpool, the Triangle Amateur Ham Radio Club, the East Palestine Ham Radio Club, and was an original member of the Sandy & Beaver Canal Association. He was also a licensed realtor at one time in the East Liverpool area, along with his wife. Always ready to help others in need, Paul was the first to lend a helping hand in any way he could, and was known by all for his generosity and tireless work in his many endeavors.

He leaves his wife to cherish his memory, along with son, Paul Allen Jones, Jr. and wife, Jessica Mitchell Jones. He is also survived by his pride and joy, grandson Tanner Allen, along with a sister, Kathryn Lee Jonas of Surprize, AZ; several grandchildren; nephew, Jeffrey Talalas of Surprize; niece, Elizabeth Talalas Grimshaw of Oklahoma; his favorite uncle, David O. Wilkinson and Aunt Grace of East Liverpool; and children, John P. Jones and Christine A. Jones from a previous marriage.

Friends may visit with the family at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. East Liverpool Elks Lodge # 258 will conduct an Elks service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Chaplain George Romage of Valley Hospice. Burial will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park, where the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will provide full military honors. Family and friends will gather following the burial at the Dawson Family Center for a time of fellowship.

The family wishes to thank the Steubenville Area Valley Hospice, along with the many friends who visited and supported him throughout his illness.
