Obituary for Phyllis Treleven Stewart

Wellsville, Ohio- Phyllis Treleven Stewart, 92, of Lisbon Street passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 3:57 p.m. at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born March 6, 1927 at East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late William John and Edna Olive Howard Treleven. A lifetime area resident, she was the retired Clerk of Courts in the city of East Liverpool working for Judge’s Chertoff, Tobin and McDonald. She also was a court stenographer. She was a member of the Ohio Association of Municipal Court Clerks.

A member of the Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, she was an avid bowler. She bowled in more than 50 State Tournaments over the years and was instrumental in the development of the East Liverpool Women’s Bowling Association where she served as its secretary & treasurer. She belonged to the Ohio Women’s Bowling Association and the Women’s International Bowling Congress. A graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1945 where she served as her class secretary, she contributed in the development of the East Liverpool High School Alumni Association.

Preceded by her husband, Charles E. Stewart, whom she married May 16, 1958, he passed away June 28, 2005. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Tomlison Mathess and her husband, Steve of Wellsville.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by four sisters, Iris Applegate, Helen Steffen, Sue Neleigh and Jane Treleven; as well as five brothers, W. Howard Treleven, Thomas Treleven, Richard Treleven, Kenneth Treleven and Raymond Treleven.

Friends may visit the family on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Dr. Pastor William Wagner of the church will officiate a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.

Immediately following the service family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center.
