Obituary for R. Gayle "Gayle" Merriman (Pelley)

East Liverpool, Ohio- Roberta Gayle Merriman, 90, of Anderson Boulevard passed away Friday, September 27th, 2019 at 2:40 a.m. on her 72nd wedding anniversary at the St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center in Columbiana, Ohio following a lengthy illness.

Born October 18, 1928 at East Liverpool, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Milton and Nell Hall Pelley. A lifetime area resident, she was retired from the former FW Woolworth & Company where she worked at both the East Liverpool and Steubenville stores.

A member of the Wellsville Church of the Nazarene where she played the church piano for more than 40 years, she was a graduate of East Liverpool High School Class of 1946. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family whom she adored.

Survivors include her husband, Howard L. Merriman, whom she married September 27, 1947, at home. There are three daughters, Marsha Black and her husband, Paul of Poland, Ohio, Kathy Myers and her husband, Dave of Chester, West Virginia and Kimberly Willey and her husband, Dave of Chester; and two sons, Marvin Merriman of East Liverpool and Kevan Merriman and his wife, Ellen of East Liverpool.

In addition, she leaves behind 11 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren with two more on the way.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son, H. Wayne Merriman, three sisters, Lou Mae Calhoun, Betty Myers and Olive Emmerling; as well as two brothers, Jim Pelley and Brian Pelley.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday from Noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Dave Willey, Gayle’s son-in-law will officiate a service at 11:00a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Immediately following the service family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center.

Burial will be in Columbiana County Memorial Park.
