Obituary for Ralph F. Henderson Sr.

Ralph F. Henderson, Sr., 90

GLENMOOR – Ralph F. Henderson, Sr., of Glenmoor, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Sprenger Health Care Rose Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was 90.

Born in Hammondsville, June 15, 1930, he was a son of the late Ralph S. and Wilma Culp Henderson. A resident of this area all his life, he was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1948. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was a Corporal, stationed in Germany. Upon returning home, he was employed at Crucible Steel and then by Timet in Toronto where he worked as a machinist and lab supervisor for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee and a was member of the session at one time.

Along with his late wife, Ralph loved to vacation with his children, often taking trips to Lake Erie. However, their favorite place to visit was their rustic cabin in Barry’s Bay, Canada. Here the children learned to swim and catch fish for dinner, as well as hauling water from the outdoor pump. Later in life, they enjoyed trips to Garden City, South Carolina with their children and grandchildren.

During the 60s and 70s, Ralph could be found on the baseball field coaching youth of all ages. He was then, and is now, highly respected by the boys he coached and his fellow coaches. His family meant the world to him. He found much joy and pride in attending his family’s sporting events, including his daughters’ cheerleading. At home, the television was always tuned to the Golf channel, unless the Pirates or Steelers were playing.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Ann Henderson on June 24, 2017. The couple married January 6, 1952. He was also preceded in death by a grandson,
William Patrick Henderson, and a sister Jean Withrow.

Left to cherish his memory are three sons, R. Fred Henderson and his wife, Vicki, of East Liverpool; Joe Henderson and his wife, Marian, of Canton; and Bill Henderson and his wife, Donna, of East Liverpool; and two daughters, Laury Lynch and her husband, Tim, of East Liverpool; and Robin Theiss and her husband, Bob, also of East Liverpool. There are eleven grandchildren: Fred (Katie Locknar) Henderson, Sam (Bridget) Henderson, Kinsey Henderson, Erin (Bryan) Dixon, Katie (Joe) Curry, Dan (Kayla) Henderson, Julie Henderson, Kyle (Lauren DeSarro) Lynch, Travis (Brittny) Lynch, Bobbie Ann Theiss, and Drew Theiss. In addition, there are 13 adorable great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Rev. Dr. Vel Vais of the church will conduct a private funeral service at the Dawson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Betty Barnard Scholarship Fund in care of the Glenmoor Presbyterian Church, 16410 State Route 267, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.
