Obituary for Raymond L. Baker, Sr. Sr.

Wellsville-Raymond L. Baker, Sr., 57, of the Y & O Road, died suddenly Monday, August 12, 2002, at home.

Born in East Liverpool, March 29, 1945, son of Dorothy Kent Baker at home and the late William M. Baker, he was a lifelong area resident. A member of Teamster Local #92, he worked as a truck driver for over 35 years and also operated heavy equipment on construction sites.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge #122 and the Onourway Pool Team that was a national 8-ball team qualifier in Las Vegas in 2000. He also held membership in the APA and in 1999 was named the sportsman of the year by the Men’s Inner City Pool League.

A member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1964, he also held membership in the Glenmoor American Legion at one time. In addition, he coached the Glenmoor Rams Football Team in the late 1970’s.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Laura Allison Baker, whom he married August 31, 1965. Two sons survive, Raymond L. Baker, Jr. and his wife Kim, of Wellsville, and Rich S. Baker, his Fiancé Cyndi, both of Calcutta. A sister survives as well, Valerie Green of Georgia along with five grandchildren, Samantha, Katie, Dalton, Billirae, and Raymond Lee Baker, III.

A sister, Doris Ann Baker and a brother, William Baker preceded Mr. Baker in death.

Friends may call anytime Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
