Obituary for Richard Lewis "Dick" Carson

Richard Lewis Carson, Jr. died December 13, 2017 at the age of 83. He was born October 29, 1934 in East Liverpool, the son of the late Richard Lewis Carson, Sr. and Sally Baker Carson.

Dick was the Salutatorian of the Class of 1952 at East Liverpool High School, and received an undergraduate degree from Washington and Jefferson in 1956. A 1957 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he earned a Masters degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1962. He retired in 1993 after working for AT&T (Western Electric) for 35 years, during which time he was a manager of Government Systems, Engineering and Computer Systems.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian Costello Carson, along with two daughters: Nancy Carson McGuffin and her husband, James S. McGuffin, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and their son, Carson McGuffin of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Sally Carson Gaines and her husband, Randy P. Gaines, of Bethesda, Maryland and their children, Megan and Ryan Gaines.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Riverview Cemetery Chapel on Thursday, December 28 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow.

Those wishing to do so may make monetary gifts in Dick’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Dawson Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements.
