Obituary for Robert P Jones

Robert P. “Bob” Jones, who made his home in East Liverpool since 1941, passed away suddenly at East Liverpool City Hospital at 12:55 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2016. Bob, who resided on the Y&O Road, was 86.

A son of the late Charles and Alice Wolfe Jones, he was born on June 2, 1930 in Youngstown. A 1948 graduate of East Liverpool High School, he was retired from Ohio Edison, where he worked for many years at the Sammis Plant. Bob had also been a meat cutter at the former Kelly’s Groceries in downtown East Liverpool.

Bob had been associated with St. Clair Township Police Department, having served as Chief until 1978. He also volunteered at the Glenmoor Volunteer Fire Department at one time, and had served as chief there for two years. A charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Lisbon, he also belonged to the Columbiana County Fireman’s Association and was a past member of the Eagles in Lisbon. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

His wife, Evelyn “Louise” Jones, preceded him in death on July 29, 2003. They were married on January 13, 1968.

Surviving is a daughter, Karen Trotter, and a son, Randy Jones, both of East Liverpool.

There are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include a step-daughter, Treva, a step-son, David, and several step-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his best friend and canine companion, Gert.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Jones, and by a grandson, Danny, as well as a step-son, Ricky Jolly. Also preceding him was an infant sister, Betty Louise Jones, and two brothers, Thomas Jones and Donald Jones, along with two half-brothers, William and James Roberts.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Evangelist Will Montgomery of the St. Clair Avenue Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park, followed by a continued time of fellowship at the Dawson Family Center.
