Obituary for Bob Powell

Wellsville, Ohio- Robert E. “Gomer” Powell, 74, of Glasgow Road, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 3:40 p.m. at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness.

Born January 16, 1946 in East Liverpool, Ohio, he is a son of Mildred L. Farrell Powell of Wellsville, and the late Charles E. Powell.

A lifetime area resident, he retired from the former Crucible Steel Company of Midland, Pennsylvania in 1982. He then worked at WHEMCO in Midland from 1988 to 1994. Bob loved living in the country, cutting grass and gardening. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dixie Todd Powell, whom he married December 10, 1972, at home. There are two daughters, Suzie Plate and her husband, Brian of Austintown, Ohio and Nicole Powell of Wellsville; and one son, Scott Powell and his wife, Heather of Wellsville.

He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Cody Plate and his wife, Sara, Mindy Jordan and her husband, Matt, Zack Mellott, Jonathan Maylone, Abbey Powell and Jaxon Powell; and two great-grandchildren, Maleena Plate and Madelyn Jordan; and one sister, Barbara Plate and her husband, Bob of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Dawson Funeral Home in East Liverpool. Pastor Mark Blakeley of the Wellsville 1st Christian Church will officiate a service at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery.

In compliance with the Ohio State regulations with concerns with the COVID -19 virus, social distancing and wearing a mask is required during this time at the funeral home.
