Obituary for Ron Pillar

Ronald S. Pillar, Sr., 70

EAST LIVERPOOL – Ronald S. Pillar, Sr., of East Liverpool, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the Christian House Home Health in East Palestine. He was 70.

Born in East Liverpool, June 30, 1951, he was a son of the late Peter and Lucille R. Gilkison Pillar. He attended St. Aloysius School and was a 1970 graduate of East Liverpool High School.

As a former employee of Tri-State Glass for over 25 years, most will remember “The Glass Man” with his arm hanging over the side of that big red truck, waving to everyone he sees. He dedicated his life to helping those within his community, whether through fixing a broken window, offering his handyman work during his free time, or simply taking every opportunity to chat and laugh with you on a bad day. When he was needed, he was there.

He devoted his life to caring for his brother, and best friend, Jim. Together they were a dynamic duo. You couldn’t possibly get through a conversation with the two of them without one bursting into a fit of laughter, while the other tried desperately to defend themselves from whatever quip was thrown their way. In the earlier years, with brother Jerry thrown in the mix, you can be sure that this banter could evolve into an all-out wrestling match at any time. As the only sister in the bunch, Marilyn could be heard yelling, “Oh, you boys!” with a perfectly timed smile. There was never a dull moment with the Pillar crew. But at the end of the day, through all the laughs, he would have done anything for his family.

In his years after retirement, he could be seen cruising around town in his little red convertible, tossing a few dollars at the slot machines, or, most importantly to him, spending time with his children.

His greatest purpose in this world was helping. He was genuine, selfless, and kind, and those who were fortunate enough to know him will be forever grateful that they did. He was a force in this world that will never be forgotten.

He is survived by a daughter, Joelle Ring and her husband, Aaron, of Columbus, and a son, Ronald S. Pillar, Jr. and his wife, Deliah, of New Waterford, as well as a sister, Marilyn Frye and her husband, Conard, of Ohioville, and a brother, James R. Pillar of East Liverpool. He will also be sadly missed by his two grandpuppies, Stanley and Levi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother, Jerry Pillar.

Family and friends may visit Friday evening at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Rev. Alvin Talkington will conduct a funeral service Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
