Ruth Ella Curry, formerly of Curry Street in East Liverpool, passed away early Saturday morning, July 30, 2016 at Valley Oaks Care Center. She was 89 years young.

Born in East Liverpool on December 6, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Simon and Harriett (Carnes) Duke. Ruth was a member of the First Church of Christ, Disciples, and attended East Liverpool High School.

Ruth had been the longtime office manager for prominent East Liverpool physician, Dr. Allan O’Brien, and in her later years she purchased and managed the former Marie’s Beauty Salon. In her free time, she loved to travel, especially cross country to visit her daughter in California, and also to Las Vegas and the deep South. An avid reader, she was always interested in debating politics with anyone who would listen.

She was preceded in death on April 3, 1998 by her husband, James P. “Jim” Curry. They had been married March 21, 1959.

Ruth is survived by her son, Michael Thornberry of Wellsville, and by her daughter, Patricia “Patti” Lendio, and her husband, James, of Palmdale, CA. There are two grandchildren, Gregory Thornberry and his wife, Crissy, and Jaimie Lendio. Ruth also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Piper and Emma Thornberry, as well as a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Thornberry. Ruth also appreciated the care given to her by a great-niece, Karen Golden Tice, as well as a special friend, Cheryl Wright. She also considered her neighbor, Betty Barcus, as part of the family.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death on December 10, 2005 by a son, Charles “Chuck” Thornberry, and by several sisters and brothers: Earl Duke, Warren Duke, Rena Pugh, Isabelle Glendenning, Margie Conkle, and Dorothy Duke.
