Obituary for Sara Hughes

East Liverpool, Ohio- Sara Jean Hughes, 83, of Curry Street passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021 at 11:06 a.m. at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Born February 14th, 1938 in Washington, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Sarah “Sadie” Couchenaur Brown.

A homemaker, she moved to this area 25 years ago. A graduate of Midway High School Class of 1956, she was a former member of the Eastern Star. Sara was a strong spirited woman with a tender heart who made sure everyone stayed “in line” and was always fed, even if not that hungry. She was famous for her quick wit and letting you know exactly what was on her mind and what she was thinking.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Hughes, whom she married December 25th, 1970, at home. There are three daughters, Robin Streng of Hookstown, Pennsylvania, Tina Viakley and her husband, Terry of Weirton, West Virginia and Sunny McCoy of New Cumberland, West Virgina; and one son, Robert Moore and his wife, Elizabeth of Midwest City, Oklahoma.

In addition, she leaves behind eight grandchildren, Steven Streng, Austin Streng, Rene Fowler, Emily Moore, Allison Viakley, Mitchell Viakley, Jake McCoy and Ty McCoy; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Patty Moreau of McDonald, of McDonald, Pennsylvania.

Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.

The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of all local arrangements.

The family requests no visitation or service.
