Obituary for Stephen Michael Kline Sr.

Stephen Michael Kline Sr.
Well-known sports enthusiast and radio personality Stephen M. “Steve” Kline, Sr., 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at 5:32 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Allegheny General Hospital. Although he battled many health issues, he considered himself blessed, and his positive attitude and strength always prevailed.

Born in Sharon, PA on November 15, 1955, he was a son of the late Michael Stephen and Ann Kuharik Kline. He was a 1973 graduate of Farrell High School and soon took a job working as a disc jockey at local radio stations WFAR and WPIC, where he remained until moving to this area in the mid-80’s to further his career in radio at Rocky 103.5 in Steubenville. As busy as he was during those years, he always made time for his young family at home.

In East Liverpool, Steve became immersed in local high school sports – primarily in his capacity as play-by-play announcer for the former Froggy 104 Radio. The enthusiasm in his voice as he followed area athletes was contagious, and he was considered a true sportsman in every way – whether it was playing softball, coaching baseball, umpiring, refereeing, or teaching kids the love of the game.

Steve and his wife, the former Lori Williams, were married on July 6, 1998. They were rarely seen apart; as one friend expressed, their love for each other made the world a better place. Together, they took great pride in their community and the many service organizations they were involved in, including Relay for Life, Rotary Club, St. Clair Township Tourism’s annual Fireworks Festival, Robert Bycroft fundraisers, and the United Way, where he was honored with the Directors Award for his dedication to the youth of Steubenville.

For many years, he was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and served on the vestry.

Steve will be profoundly missed by his family and many friends, but especially his wife, Lori. He also leaves behind five children: Kelly Kline and Stephanie Kline, both of Melbourne, FL; Melinda Dailey and her husband, Dan, of East Liverpool; Stephen Kline, Jr. and his wife, Jenni; and Daniel Kline, all of Melbourne. There are eight grandchildren whom he adored: Tony Marmo, Gabriel Walker, Gauge Walker, MaKenzie Kline, Daniel Kline, Kierra Kline, Stephen Kline and Christopher Partee.

Also surviving are his sisters, Sophie Mack and her husband, Don, of Hermitage, PA; Barbara Ann Kline of Gallup, NM; and a brother, Michael Kline, Jr. of Wheatland, PA; his mother-in-law, Linda Williams, sister-in-law, Terry Barnard and her husband, Dean; and brother-in-law, Rich Williams, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will forever remember Steve’s goodness and loving kindness.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Friday, where the family will be present from 4 to 9 p.m. The family will also receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m.

Rev'd Steven McKeown will officiate at services to be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Family and friends will gather at Olivia’s Banquet Center (formerly St. Ann’s Church) for a continued time of fellowship immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Steve would want others to consider supporting organ donation and all of the organizations’ efforts, especially during the month of April, which is National Donate for Life month.
