POLAND, OHIO – Steven T. Shelton, 63, of Youngstown passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 after a hard battle with ALS at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio with his family by his side.
Steve was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on November 29, 1957 to Denver and Betty A. (Allison) Shelton. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1976 then from Youngstown State University with a BSBA in accounting and an MBA. Steve later became a Certified Public Accountant. As a CPA, Steve ran a successful accounting firm for 37 years. As an entrepreneur, Steve also started and operated the Mahoning Valley Tent Rental business for 32 years.
Steve loved his family and spent many evenings coaching both his son and daughter’s baseball teams. Many evenings were spent at the Liberty Baseball Fields. He worked with the Liberty Baseball League to expand and light the baseball fields in Liberty. He also donated his time assisting with the Liberty Scholarship Funds for the Liberty School System. Steve was also a fiscal officer for Liberty Township.
Steve loved being outdoors. Some of his best memories were spent hiking and camping. He spent many weekends by the campfire with family and friends. He was an avid skier and loved to golf.
Steve was a HUGE Pittsburgh Pirates fan and season ticket holder, specifically due to the great players Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski. Steve has loved and followed the Pittsburgh Pirates since he was a kid. For a man who loves the game of baseball, it has been very ironic that Steve suffered from the same disease also known as the Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Steve was always the person to challenge you, to support you, and to give in abundance. Through his support his daughter, Kerri, received her Ph.D. in organic chemistry and his son, Patrick, is a computer analyst employed at Southwoods Health.
Steve was a devout Christian who followed his beliefs though his life serving and volunteering for his family, friends and the community around him. We know he is with his Lord and Savior and will always be watching over his family and friends.
Preceding Steve in death was his mother Betty A. (Alison) Shelton.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, whom he married May 16, 1981, Christine (White) Shelton; father Denver Shelton; daughter Dr. Kerri Taylor and her husband Adam; son Patrick Shelton and his wife Virginia; two grandchildren Savannah and Cora Taylor and brother James Shelton and his wife Alison.
